Introduction

November has been a productive month for Holomento. New “mini” bosses, a new ability system, reworked UI, many bug fixes, and an enemy scaling system have all made their way into the project.

As usual, I’d like to give a special shout-out to this month’s Patrons. If you would like to become a patron, please visit the project’s Patreon. I’d like to extend an ENORMOUS thank you to the Holomento patrons below:

"Mini" Bosses

I have added several new “mini” bosses to the world. These giants will not attack unless damaged or approached by a traveler. They have an enormous amount of health and deal tons of damage with a terrifying laser blast. If you get too close they will try to squish you under their rocky toes. These giants were a lot of fun to make and give players a fun optional side challenge for extra loot and cash!

New Locations

Several new locations have been added and more are in progress. I have also added a few placeholder NPC fellow travelers throughout the valley as well to breathe a bit of life into some locations before NPCs are added. Among these locations are a few new boss arenas and newly updated areas in the central valley.

Abilities

Abilities are an exciting new feature that are sure to make combat feel more dynamic and unique. Abilities are tied to items and give the traveler new attacks, buffs and other effects. So far there are only a few in the game but the system has been put in place to easily add countless more.

Custom Console Commands and Terminal

I also took the time to add an all-new custom console command system this month that lets you do some pretty silly and fun things. A few include spawning any item/consumable in the game, giving xp, invincibility, giving money, setting the player scale, entering a freecam mode, enabling noclip, teleporting and more. This system is accessible to players as well by toggling an option in the menu. When enabled, progress will not be saved to help prevent cheating (while still having fun with the ridiculousness and absurdity of some of the commands).

In-Game Screenshots

A minor yet fun feature I added this month was the ability to take in-game screenshots that remove any UI elements from the screen. This will allow you to easily capture moments from the game without having to worry about UI junk in the way. There are several configurable settings for screenshots including selecting the directory they get saved and the output resolution.

(Experimental) Interactive Water System

I have also been playing around a bit with an experimental new interactive water system for the game. There are many performance and optimization properties I will need to tweak before I am fully satisfied with the system however, early results look promising and it adds a nice layer of depth to world interactivity.
